The Color of Our Skin
I’ve got to find away to make the words in my head come alive
I mean no holding back with all the good bad and evil just to survive
Bold and black
Can’t wait to attack
These rhymes just keep coming back to back
Like a major heart attack
The imagery fluttering with awestruck jack
And your bean stalk can in no way
Hinder what I have to say
Stuttering and slurring
My words because I’m hurrying
To see my words vocally
Federally, fundamentally
As in elementary
Like my dear Mr Watson even the judiciary
System tries to reenact slavery
As the words I speak clear as day with bold bravery
What are the words in your head telling you
True
Let freedom ring
Oh no way I’m going to sing
A melody just because it sounds good
This good ole boy from a Baltimore hood
Has plenty to say
Anthony Arnold said this the other day
Is your name on the list
Not talking about just any list
But one where we are erased from existence
Not knowing our twisted fate of reduced dominance
See we were one Kings and Queens
But now if your from Queens
You have to read, see, or hear about modern day extinction
Like we are dinosaurs feared and announced with conviction
The color of our skin
The color of our skin
Dare to be any color of Ebony
Understand your very melanin
Am I my brothers keeper
I need to be because of the white grim reaper
