Miss Melanin is a Spoken Word Artist, Self-love Advocate, Entrepreneur, Plus Model, and Vlogger who is hungry to spread knowledge and ignite change. Although she has respect for the many different art forms, poetry is her first love. One of her favorite spots to grace the mic and be moved by the words of others today is at WordUp! It’s an electrifying open mic scene where you can find live music, poetry, & comedy.

Miss Melanin has used the gift of expression to send a message to the young people of today and the future leaders of tomorrow. She hopes that by being transparent and sharing the knowledge and wisdom she’s gained, that she can inspire others to love themselves unconditionally and to discover their divine purpose. She believes that hers is to Educate, Engage, and Ignite the Black community through the Healing Vibrations of Words.

Miss Melanin is inspired by artists like Erykah Badu, David Banner, Nina Simone, Lauryn Hill, J.Cole, and Mos Def to name a few. One of her favorite quotes is “By any means necessary” -an ideology that fueled the thoughts and actions of one of her most revered historical figures, Malcolm X. To add to her list of Black heroes: Angela Davis, Assata Shakur, and Marcus Garvey.

Today Miss Melanin enjoys the freedom of expression through her Art, Fashion, and daily Vlog. She plans to implement a creative writing & performance program for Black youth in her area, become a motivational speaker, and publish a compilation of her work. She hopes that at the age of 24 she can be a catalyst for change by freeing minds…one verse at a time.
