You drive around San Diego looking for a place that does screenprinting, and they charge you $150 to create a design you never use. You give up. You make your own logo on the Paint program in Windows and get shirts printed up so you can sell them at your shows.
You make your first shirt and your boys say, “You got a t-shirt and a dream.” You start going hard with your art and your music and your poetry, just to build a rapport. You sacrifice so much just to build your brand. You spend countless study hours researching Damon, Russell, Karl, and Dan. You spend hours in the AAA call center looking at videos on how to screenprint and marketing techniques. You give up. You watch so many videos on how to screenprint.
You go to arts and crafts stores and you ruin so many screens. You ruin so many t-shirts. You give up. You finally try to start an online store. You fail horribly. You give up. You spend whatever money after bills on more supplies. You spend hours after a 10 hour shift everyday making shirts. You finally get your rhythm. Then one day, you look up, and all of the stuff you were dreaming about in 2006 is your reality.
10 years later, people are telling you that your shirts are popping. You could’ve walked away from your dream, but instead you stayed. Stay Black.
