the erosion of the black bank.
I was having a conversation with someone the other day about the erosion of the black bank. They said, “Black banks never advertise and don’t have enough ATMs!” Here is where our problems lie. We keep holding black businesses to the same standards of corporate businesses. That’s the problem. When a Jamaican hits the streets of America for the first time, they ask 3 questions, “Where is the International grocery store?”, “Where are the Caribbean restaurants?” and “Where are the reggae clubs?”. They go looking for those places to spend their time and money. Yet, we wait for our black business to come looking for us. To court us. To win over our support. Meanwhile, we complain about their high prices, short lifespan or poor service.
Blacks have to stop chasing the most comfortable thing. We have to make deliberate decisions in business. Doing so don’t make you a hater of any other group’s businesses. If you think about it, you would actually be following the behaviors of other groups. We keep complaining about black businesses but don’t realize we are contributing to the problem. Open a savings account with a black bank using money you don’t really need to touch. Just let it sit there and fund a black entrepreneur, assist in the purchase of a car for a young college graduate and underwrite a mortgage for a single mother. We have to stop the talk and make moves. “StopTheTalkMakeTheDeposit
