Last month, 31-year-old Dr. Foyekemi Ikyaator and her husband opened the Life Savers Emergency Room, a stand-alone full service emergency room in Northwest Houston.
According to Houston Profile Magazine, the Nigerian doctor earned a full academic scholarship prior to graduating from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

After working with the St. Luke’s Health System, Dr. Ikyaator, or Dr. Foye (pronounced foy-yay) for short, decided to open up her own emergency room, where she could be able to provide primary care to patients who would otherwise have limited access to healthcare. “In the emergency room you can see between 20 and 30 patients within a shift and [there] is just enough time to treat them and get them to their next point of care,” said Dr. Foye.

Practicing without the restrictions of bureaucratic red tape allows Dr. Foye and her colleagues to devote more time and resources to people in need. “The whole idea in a free-standing ER is that you can provide the care in a more relaxed environment,” she told Houston Profile Magazine.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on Friday, January 15 at 4:00 pm at Life Savers Emergency Room located at 17685 Tomball Parkway. The entire community is invited and there will be other medical practices in attendance giving the public free screenings.
